Igor Tamm
Igor Tamm was a prominent Soviet physicist known for his significant contributions to plasma physics and nuclear fusion. Born on July 8, 1895, in Moscow, he played a crucial role in the development of the Tokamak, a device designed to confine plasma using magnetic fields, which is essential for achieving controlled nuclear fusion.
Tamm's work laid the foundation for many advancements in fusion research, and he collaborated with fellow physicist Andrei Sakharov on various projects. His achievements earned him recognition, including the prestigious Lenin Prize. Tamm passed away on April 7, 1971, leaving a lasting legacy in the field of physics.
