Ignacio Sánchez Mejías
Ignacio Sánchez Mejías was a Spanish bullfighter, poet, and playwright, born on July 6, 1891, in Sevilla, Spain. He became famous for his exceptional skills in the bullring and was known for his elegance and bravery. Sánchez Mejías was also a close friend of the renowned writer Federico García Lorca and was involved in the cultural scene of early 20th-century Spain.
Tragically, he died on August 13, 1934, after being gored by a bull during a fight in Manzanares. His death deeply affected his friends and the artistic community, inspiring Lorca to write the poem "Lament for Ignacio Sánchez Mejías," which reflects on themes of loss and mortality.
