Iconostasis
An iconostasis is a decorative screen found in many Eastern Orthodox and some Eastern Catholic churches. It separates the altar area from the nave, where the congregation sits. The iconostasis is typically adorned with religious icons, which are images of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and various saints, serving as a visual representation of the spiritual world.
The structure of the iconostasis usually consists of three main sections: the central door, known as the Royal Doors, flanked by two smaller doors called the Deacon Doors. This arrangement not only enhances the beauty of the church but also plays a significant role in the liturgical practices of the faith, emphasizing the sacredness of the altar space.
