IRT Subway
The IRT Subway, or the Interborough Rapid Transit Company, was the first subway system in New York City, opening in 1904. It was designed to alleviate congestion on the streets and provide a faster mode of transportation for residents. The IRT originally operated lines that ran from the Bronx to Brooklyn, connecting various neighborhoods and facilitating easier commutes.
Over the years, the IRT expanded and became part of the larger New York City Subway system. Today, it operates several lines, including the 1, 2, and 3 trains, serving millions of passengers each year and playing a crucial role in the city's public transportation network.
