INS Sindhurakshak
INS Sindhurakshak was a diesel-electric submarine of the Indian Navy, commissioned in 1997. It was part of the Sindhughosh class and primarily designed for anti-submarine warfare, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. The submarine was equipped with advanced sonar systems and torpedoes, enhancing India's underwater capabilities.
Tragically, INS Sindhurakshak suffered a catastrophic fire and explosion on August 14, 2013, while docked in Mumbai. The incident resulted in the loss of 18 crew members and significant damage to the vessel. Following the accident, the submarine was decommissioned, marking a somber chapter in the history of the Indian Navy.
