IKAROS
IKAROS is a solar sail spacecraft developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Launched in 2010, it aims to demonstrate the use of solar radiation pressure for propulsion in space. The spacecraft features a large, reflective sail that captures sunlight, allowing it to travel without traditional fuel.
The mission's primary goal is to test the technology and gather data on solar sailing. IKAROS successfully demonstrated its capabilities by changing its trajectory using the solar sail, paving the way for future missions that could utilize this innovative propulsion method for deep space exploration.
