IC 2170
IC 2170 is a bright emission nebula located in the constellation of Monoceros, also known as the Unicorn. It is part of a larger complex of gas and dust that forms stars. The nebula is approximately 1,500 light-years away from Earth and is known for its vibrant colors, which are produced by the ionization of gas by nearby young stars.
This nebula is often studied by astronomers to understand the processes of star formation. IC 2170 is also associated with the LBN 762 dark nebula, which obscures some of the light from the stars behind it, creating a striking contrast in the night sky.
