Hypochlorites
Hypochlorites are chemical compounds that contain the hypochlorite ion, ClO⁻. They are commonly used as disinfectants and bleaching agents due to their strong oxidizing properties. Sodium hypochlorite, often found in household bleach, is one of the most well-known hypochlorites and is effective in killing bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
In addition to their use in cleaning and sanitation, hypochlorites are also employed in water treatment processes to disinfect drinking water and swimming pools. Their ability to break down organic materials makes them valuable in various industrial applications, including textile and paper production.
