Human Herpesvirus 7
Human Herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7) is a member of the herpesvirus family, closely related to Human Herpesvirus 6. It primarily infects humans and is known to establish lifelong latency in the body after the initial infection. HHV-7 is commonly associated with mild illnesses, particularly in children, and can sometimes cause conditions like roseola.
The virus is transmitted through saliva and can be detected in various bodily fluids. While most infections are asymptomatic, HHV-7 can reactivate in immunocompromised individuals, leading to more severe health issues. Research continues to explore its role in other diseases and its interactions with the immune system.
