Housing First Model
The Housing First Model is an approach to addressing homelessness that prioritizes providing permanent housing to individuals without preconditions, such as sobriety or employment. This model recognizes that stable housing is a fundamental need that allows individuals to focus on other aspects of their lives, such as health care, employment, and social connections.
Once housed, individuals receive supportive services tailored to their needs, which may include mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and job training. Research has shown that the Housing First Model can lead to improved housing stability and better overall well-being for those experiencing homelessness.
