Honduran Coup
The Honduran Coup refers to the military overthrow of President Manuel Zelaya in June 2009. Zelaya, who was in office since 2006, sought to hold a referendum to extend presidential term limits, which led to tensions with the military and political opposition. On June 28, soldiers detained Zelaya and expelled him from the country, prompting widespread protests and international condemnation.
Following the coup, Roberto Micheletti was appointed as interim president, leading to a political crisis in Honduras. The coup resulted in sanctions and diplomatic isolation from several countries, while the situation raised concerns about democracy and human rights in the region.
