Holy Year
A "Holy Year," also known as a Jubilee Year, is a special year in the Christian tradition that is marked by a focus on forgiveness, renewal, and spiritual reflection. It typically occurs every 25 years, although extraordinary Holy Years can be declared by the Pope for specific occasions. During this time, believers are encouraged to seek reconciliation, participate in pilgrimages, and engage in acts of charity.
In a Holy Year, certain privileges are granted, such as the opportunity to receive indulgences, which are believed to reduce the temporal punishment for sins. Pilgrims often visit significant religious sites, such as St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, to deepen their faith and experience a sense of community with others.
