Hollywood Land
Hollywood Land was originally a real estate development project in the 1920s, designed to promote homes in the hills of Los Angeles. The iconic sign, which read "Hollywoodland," was erected in 1923 as part of this marketing effort. It was made of wood and stood 50 feet tall, attracting attention from potential buyers.
In 1949, the sign was shortened to just "Hollywood" after the real estate project ended. Over the years, it fell into disrepair, but in 1978, a restoration effort was launched, and the sign was rebuilt using more durable materials. Today, it stands as a symbol of the film industry and American culture.
