Ho Xuan Huong
Ho Xuan Huong was a Vietnamese poet born in the late 18th century, around 1772, in Nghe An province. She is celebrated for her bold and innovative poetry, which often challenged societal norms and addressed themes of love, gender, and the struggles of women in a patriarchal society.
Her work is characterized by its use of traditional Vietnamese forms, such as luc bat (six-eight verse), and incorporates rich imagery and humor. Despite facing significant challenges as a woman in her time, Ho Xuan Huong remains a prominent figure in Vietnamese literature, inspiring generations with her unique voice and perspective.
