Hindu Monasticism
Hindu monasticism refers to the practice of renouncing worldly life to pursue spiritual goals within the Hindu tradition. Monks, known as sannyasis or sadhus, often live in ashrams or secluded areas, dedicating their lives to meditation, study of sacred texts, and devotion to Brahman, the ultimate reality.
These monastics may follow various paths, including Advaita Vedanta or Bhakti, depending on their spiritual beliefs. They often wear simple clothing, such as ochre robes, and may engage in rituals and community service, embodying the principles of detachment and self-discipline central to Hindu philosophy.
