Hindley Earnshaw
Hindley Earnshaw is a character from Emily Brontë's novel, Wuthering Heights. He is the son of Mr. Earnshaw and the brother of Catherine Earnshaw. After the death of their father, Hindley inherits the Earnshaw estate and becomes increasingly cruel, especially towards Heathcliff, the orphan taken in by the family. His jealousy and resentment lead to a decline in his character and the overall atmosphere of the household.
As the story progresses, Hindley's abusive behavior and alcoholism contribute to his downfall. He becomes obsessed with gambling and loses control of his estate, ultimately leading to his tragic end. His character serves as a representation of the destructive nature of pride and revenge within the novel.
