Higher Education Funding Council for England
The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) was an organization responsible for distributing public money to universities and colleges in England. Established in 1992, its primary role was to ensure that higher education institutions received adequate funding to support teaching, research, and student services. HEFCE aimed to promote quality and accessibility in higher education.
In 2018, HEFCE was replaced by the Office for Students (OfS), which took over its responsibilities. The OfS continues to oversee funding and regulation in the higher education sector, focusing on improving student outcomes and ensuring value for money in education.
