Hesychasm
Hesychasm is a mystical tradition within the Eastern Orthodox Church that emphasizes inner stillness and the practice of prayer. It seeks to achieve a direct experience of God through contemplative practices, particularly the repetitive prayer known as the Jesus Prayer, which involves the invocation of Jesus' name.
The term "Hesychasm" comes from the Greek word "hesychia," meaning "silence" or "stillness." Practitioners believe that through deep meditation and a disciplined spiritual life, one can attain a state of divine union and peace, reflecting the teachings of early Christian mystics and theologians like Saint Gregory Palamas.
