Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV-1) is a common virus primarily known for causing oral herpes, which leads to cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth. It is highly contagious and can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person, often during kissing or sharing utensils.
In addition to oral symptoms, HSV-1 can also cause genital herpes, although this is less common. Once infected, the virus remains in the body and can reactivate, leading to recurrent outbreaks. While there is no cure, antiviral medications can help manage symptoms and reduce the frequency of outbreaks.
