Henri Alleg
Henri Alleg was a French-Algerian journalist born on July 24, 1921, in Alès, France. He is best known for his courageous reporting during the Algerian War of Independence, particularly for his book "La Question," which detailed the torture used by the French military against Algerian prisoners. His work brought international attention to the brutal tactics employed during the conflict.
Alleg was arrested in 1957 and subjected to torture by the French authorities, which he later recounted in his writings. After the war, he continued to advocate for human rights and freedom of the press, becoming a symbol of resistance against oppression. He passed away on July 17, 2020.
