Hen Harrier
The Hen Harrier is a medium-sized bird of prey found across Europe and parts of Asia. It is known for its distinctive appearance, featuring a long tail, slender wings, and a characteristic white rump. Males are gray with black wing tips, while females are brown with streaks, making them well-camouflaged in their habitats. They primarily hunt small mammals and birds, using their keen eyesight to spot prey from the air.
Hen Harriers prefer open moorlands, grasslands, and wetlands for nesting. They build their nests on the ground, often hidden among vegetation to protect their eggs and chicks. These birds are known for their unique hunting behavior, often seen gliding low over the ground in search of food. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect their habitats, as they face threats from habitat loss and illegal persecution.
