Hemispatial Neglect
Hemispatial Neglect is a neurological condition where a person fails to notice or respond to stimuli on one side of their body or environment, typically the left side. This condition often occurs after damage to the right hemisphere of the brain, particularly in areas responsible for spatial awareness. Individuals may ignore food on one side of their plate or fail to recognize people approaching from that side.
The neglect can affect various activities, including reading, where a person may only read the right side of a page. Treatment often involves rehabilitation strategies to help patients regain awareness and improve their ability to interact with their surroundings.
