Hemis Festival
The Hemis Festival is an annual celebration held in Ladakh, India, typically in July. It honors Padmasambhava, a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism, who is believed to have brought Buddhism to Tibet. The festival features vibrant traditional dances, music, and rituals performed by monks in the Hemis Monastery, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region.
During the festival, visitors can witness the unveiling of a large thangka, a traditional Tibetan scroll painting, which is displayed only once every 12 years. The event attracts both locals and tourists, providing an opportunity to experience the spiritual and cultural significance of Buddhism in the Himalayan region.
