Heart Valve Disorders
Heart valve disorders occur when one or more of the four heart valves do not function properly. These valves, which include the aortic valve, mitral valve, pulmonary valve, and tricuspid valve, help regulate blood flow through the heart and to the rest of the body. When valves become narrowed (stenosis) or leak (regurgitation), it can lead to various symptoms, including fatigue, shortness of breath, and swelling in the legs.
Diagnosis of heart valve disorders typically involves echocardiograms, which use sound waves to create images of the heart's structure and function. Treatment options may include medication to manage symptoms or surgical procedures to repair or replace the affected valve. Early detection and management are crucial for maintaining heart health.
