Hawaiian monk seals
The Hawaiian monk seal is a marine mammal native to the Hawaiian Islands. It is one of the few seal species that live in tropical waters. These seals have a streamlined body, a short snout, and can weigh up to 450 pounds. They primarily feed on fish, squid, and crustaceans.
Hawaiian monk seals are known for their unique behavior of basking on sandy beaches. They are a critically endangered species, with only about 1,400 individuals remaining. Conservation efforts are in place to protect their habitat and ensure their survival in the wild.
