Hawaiian Pineapple Industry
The Hawaiian pineapple industry began in the late 19th century, with the establishment of large plantations. The warm climate and fertile soil of Hawaii made it an ideal location for growing pineapples. Major companies, such as Dole and Del Monte, played significant roles in cultivating and processing pineapples, which became a key export product.
At its peak, the industry contributed significantly to the local economy and provided numerous jobs. However, over the years, competition from other countries and changing market demands led to a decline in pineapple production in Hawaii. Today, the industry is much smaller, focusing on niche markets and tourism.
