Haseki Hurrem Sultan
Haseki Hurrem Sultan was a prominent figure in the Ottoman Empire, known for being the wife of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Born in the early 16th century in what is now Ukraine, she was originally named Roxelana. Hurrem played a significant role in the political landscape of the empire, influencing her husband and participating in state affairs.
As the first legal wife of a sultan, Hurrem broke traditional norms, which often favored concubines. She was also a patron of the arts and architecture, commissioning several important buildings, including the Haseki Sultan Mosque in Istanbul. Her legacy continues to be celebrated in Turkish culture and history.
