Harvey Littleton
Harvey Littleton (1922-2013) was an influential American glass artist and educator, known for pioneering the studio glass movement. He emphasized the importance of artistic expression in glassmaking, encouraging artists to create unique works in a studio setting rather than in large factories. His innovative approach helped elevate glass to a respected medium in the fine arts.
Littleton founded the first university glass program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1962, where he taught many aspiring artists. His work and teachings inspired a generation of glass artists, contributing significantly to the growth of the contemporary glass art scene in the United States.
