Harris Nuclear Plant
The Harris Nuclear Plant is a nuclear power facility located in North Carolina, operated by Duke Energy. It generates electricity using nuclear fission, which involves splitting atoms to release energy. The plant has a single pressurized water reactor and is designed to produce about 900 megawatts of electrical power.
Constructed in the late 1980s, the Harris Nuclear Plant began commercial operation in 1987. It plays a significant role in providing reliable energy to the region while adhering to strict safety and environmental regulations. The facility is named after the nearby Harris Lake, which serves as a cooling source for the plant.
