Hans von Tegetthoff
Hans von Tegetthoff was an Austrian naval officer born on December 23, 1827, in Pula, which was then part of the Austrian Empire. He is best known for his leadership during the Battle of Lissa in 1866, where he commanded the Austrian fleet against the Italian navy. His strategic skills and decisive actions led to a significant victory, enhancing Austria's naval reputation.
Tegetthoff's success at Lissa made him a national hero in Austria, and he was promoted to the rank of admiral. He continued to serve in various naval capacities until his retirement, leaving a lasting legacy in Austrian maritime history. He passed away on April 7, 1871.
