Hans Bellmer
Hans Bellmer was a German artist known for his provocative and surreal sculptures, particularly his life-sized dolls. Born in 1902, he became a prominent figure in the Surrealism movement, using his work to explore themes of desire, sexuality, and the human body. His dolls often featured exaggerated proportions and were designed to challenge traditional notions of femininity.
In addition to sculpture, Bellmer was also a skilled photographer and created striking images of his dolls in various poses and settings. His work has influenced many contemporary artists and continues to be studied for its complex interplay of art and psychology, reflecting the tumultuous period of the Weimar Republic and beyond.
