Haboob
A haboob is a type of intense dust storm that occurs in arid regions, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa. It is characterized by strong winds that lift large amounts of dust and sand into the atmosphere, creating a wall of dust that can be several thousand feet high. Haboobs typically form during thunderstorms when downdrafts push dust and debris into the air.
These storms can reduce visibility to near zero and pose hazards to transportation and health. Haboobs can travel quickly, sometimes reaching speeds of up to 30 miles per hour, and may last for several hours. They are a natural phenomenon that can significantly impact the environment and local communities.
