HCFCs
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons, or HCFCs, are a group of chemicals used primarily as refrigerants, solvents, and foam-blowing agents. They were developed as a less harmful alternative to CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), which are known to deplete the ozone layer. HCFCs have a lower potential for ozone depletion but still contribute to environmental issues.
Due to their harmful effects, the production and use of HCFCs are being phased out under the Montreal Protocol, an international treaty aimed at protecting the ozone layer. Many countries are transitioning to more environmentally friendly alternatives, such as HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) and natural refrigerants.
