Hōjōki
Hōjōki is a short work of Japanese literature written by Kamo no Chōmei in the early 13th century. It reflects on the transient nature of life and the impermanence of worldly things, inspired by the author's experiences during a period of social upheaval and natural disasters in Kyoto.
The text is structured as a personal essay, where Chōmei describes his retreat to a small hut in the mountains. Through vivid imagery and philosophical reflections, he contemplates the fleeting nature of existence, emphasizing the importance of simplicity and detachment from material possessions.
