Hürrem
Hürrem, also known as Roxelana, was a prominent figure in the Ottoman Empire during the 16th century. Born in present-day Ukraine, she was captured and brought to the Ottoman court as a slave. Hürrem eventually became the wife of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and played a significant role in the political landscape of the empire.
As the first legal wife of a sultan, Hürrem broke traditional norms and influenced various aspects of governance. She was known for her intelligence, political acumen, and charitable works, including the construction of mosques and schools. Her legacy continues to be a subject of interest in Ottoman history.
