Guttman Scale
The Guttman Scale is a measurement tool used in social science research to assess attitudes or behaviors. It consists of a series of statements arranged in a hierarchical order, where agreeing with a more extreme statement implies agreement with less extreme ones. This allows researchers to gauge the intensity of respondents' views on a particular topic.
For example, if a survey includes statements about climate change awareness, a respondent who agrees with the most extreme statement, such as "I believe climate change is a crisis," would likely also agree with milder statements like "I believe climate change is real." This scaling method helps in understanding the progression of attitudes.
