Gunther Schuller
Gunther Schuller was an American composer, conductor, and music educator, born on November 22, 1925, in New York City. He is best known for his contributions to both classical music and jazz, particularly for his role in developing the genre known as Third Stream, which blends elements of both styles. Schuller was also a prominent French horn player and served as the principal hornist for the Metropolitan Opera.
Throughout his career, Schuller composed numerous works, including orchestral pieces, operas, and chamber music. He was a dedicated educator, teaching at various institutions, including the New England Conservatory. Schuller received several awards for his work, including a Grammy Award and a Kennedy Center Honor, recognizing his significant impact on American music.
