Guardian Lions
Guardian Lions, also known as Foo Dogs or Shishi, are traditional Chinese sculptures that symbolize protection and good fortune. Typically found in pairs, these stone or bronze figures are often placed at the entrances of temples, palaces, and homes to ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity.
The design of Guardian Lions features a lion-like appearance, with one usually holding a ball under its paw, representing authority, while the other has a cub, symbolizing nurturing. These statues have a rich history in Chinese culture and are influenced by the ancient belief in the protective power of lions.
