Green Heron
The Green Heron is a small, stocky bird found near freshwater habitats like ponds, marshes, and rivers. It has a distinctive greenish-black cap, a chestnut-colored neck, and long legs, making it easily recognizable. This bird is known for its patience while hunting, often standing still for long periods before striking at fish or amphibians.
Green Herons are primarily solitary and are most active during dawn and dusk. They are skilled at using tools, such as dropping bait to attract fish, which is a rare behavior among birds. Their diet mainly consists of fish, insects, and small crustaceans.
