Greek Revolts
The Greek Revolts refer to a series of uprisings by the Greek people against foreign rule, primarily during the 19th century. The most notable of these was the Greek War of Independence (1821-1832), where Greeks fought against the Ottoman Empire to gain independence. This conflict was fueled by a desire for national identity and freedom, inspired by the broader European Enlightenment and other independence movements.
Other revolts occurred in different regions, such as the Cretan Revolt and the Greek Revolution of 1843. These uprisings often sought to address local grievances and assert Greek sovereignty. Ultimately, the revolts contributed to the establishment of the modern Greek state and the decline of Ottoman control in the region.
