Great Plains Toad
The Great Plains Toad (*Anaxyrus cognatus*) is a medium-sized amphibian found primarily in the central United States and parts of Canada. This toad typically has a warty, olive-brown skin that helps it blend into its grassland habitat. It prefers open areas, such as prairies and fields, where it can find shelter under rocks or vegetation.
Great Plains Toads are nocturnal and are most active during the warmer months. They feed on insects and other small invertebrates. During the breeding season, males call out to attract females, creating a distinctive chorus that can be heard in their natural habitats, especially near water sources like ponds or streams.
