Grand Portage
Grand Portage is a historic site located in northeastern Minnesota, near the border with Canada. It served as a vital transportation route for the North West Company during the fur trade era in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The site features a long, challenging portage trail that connects Lake Superior to the interior lakes and rivers, allowing traders to transport goods efficiently.
Today, Grand Portage is part of the Grand Portage National Monument, which preserves the cultural and historical significance of the area. Visitors can explore reconstructed buildings, learn about the Ojibwe people, and experience the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
