Godwin's Law
Godwin's Law is an internet adage that asserts as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one. This means that in heated debates, participants may eventually resort to extreme analogies, often diminishing the quality of the conversation.
The law was formulated by Mike Godwin in 1990 to highlight how discussions can devolve into hyperbolic comparisons. While it serves as a reminder to maintain civil discourse, it also points out the tendency for people to exaggerate in arguments, which can lead to misunderstandings and derail productive dialogue.
