Global Workspace Theory
Global Workspace Theory (GWT) is a cognitive architecture that explains how consciousness works. It suggests that our mind functions like a theater, where only a small amount of information is in the spotlight at any given time. This "global workspace" allows various cognitive processes to share information, enabling us to be aware of certain thoughts, feelings, or perceptions while others remain unconscious.
According to GWT, when information enters this global workspace, it becomes accessible to different mental processes, such as memory, decision-making, and problem-solving. This theory helps researchers understand how we focus our attention and how different aspects of our cognition interact to create conscious experience.
