Glicko Rating System
The Glicko Rating System is a method used to calculate the skill levels of players in competitive games, such as chess or esports. Developed by Mark Glickman, it improves upon the traditional Elo Rating System by incorporating a measure of uncertainty in a player's rating. This uncertainty reflects how confident the system is about a player's skill level, allowing for more accurate adjustments after each match.
In the Glicko system, each player has a rating, a rating deviation (which indicates the reliability of the rating), and a volatility value (which measures how much a player's skill level is expected to change). After each game, these values are updated based on the match outcome, providing a dynamic and responsive way to assess player performance over time.
