Gipsy Moth
The Gipsy Moth (Lymantria dispar) is a species of moth native to Europe and Asia. It is known for its destructive caterpillars, which feed on a wide variety of trees and shrubs, causing significant damage to forests and landscapes. The adult moths have a wingspan of about 30 to 40 millimeters and are typically brown or gray with distinctive markings.
Introduced to North America in the late 19th century, the Gipsy Moth has since become an invasive species. Its rapid reproduction and adaptability have led to outbreaks that threaten local ecosystems. Efforts to control its population include biological, chemical, and mechanical methods.
