Gila Wilderness
The Gila Wilderness is located in southwestern New Mexico and was designated as the first wilderness area in the United States in 1924. It covers over 558,000 acres of rugged terrain, featuring mountains, canyons, and diverse ecosystems. The area is home to various wildlife, including deer, elk, and numerous bird species.
The wilderness is part of the larger Gila National Forest and offers numerous recreational opportunities such as hiking, camping, and fishing. The Gila River runs through the area, providing a habitat for aquatic life and a scenic backdrop for visitors exploring the natural beauty of the region.
