Gikuyu Mythology
Gikuyu Mythology is the traditional belief system of the Kikuyu people of Kenya. Central to this mythology is the figure of Gikuyu, the founding ancestor, who is said to have received a divine revelation from Ngai, the creator god. Gikuyu and his wife, Mumbi, are believed to have had nine daughters, who represent the various clans of the Kikuyu community.
The mythology emphasizes the importance of nature and the land, with many stories explaining the origins of natural features and cultural practices. Sacred sites, such as Mount Kenya, play a significant role in their beliefs, symbolizing the connection between the spiritual and physical worlds.
