GiB vs GB
GiB (Gibibyte) and GB (Gigabyte) are both units of digital information storage, but they represent different values. A GB is based on the decimal system, where 1 GB equals 1,000,000,000 bytes. This measurement is commonly used in consumer electronics and storage devices.
In contrast, a GiB is based on the binary system, where 1 GiB equals 1,073,741,824 bytes (2^30). This distinction is important in computing, as operating systems and software often use GiB to report memory and storage, leading to potential confusion when comparing capacities.
