The George Washington Bridge is a major suspension bridge that connects New York City and Fort Lee, New Jersey. It spans the Hudson River and is one of the busiest bridges in the world, carrying over 100 million vehicles each year. The bridge opened in 1931 and was designed by engineer Othmar Ammann.
With a main span of 4,760 feet, the George Washington Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its completion. It features two levels, with the upper level accommodating six lanes of traffic and the lower level serving as a walkway and additional traffic lanes.
